Merungora was established in 1998 as a rabbit breeding facility designed to produce an excellent quality laboratory rabbit to a limited yet eager scientific market. The past ten years have proven to be an excellent first stage, whereby we have been able to construct and equip a building (which met the standards of NSW Agriculture and the Animal Ethics Committee) for the specific purpose of producing quality laboratory New Zealand White rabbits at an acceptable price. At first, our animal production was relatively small which rather adversely impacted our ability to supply laboratories requiring larger numbers of animals per delivery cycle.
Drawing on our collective experiences we have designed an extension to the existing building that will permit us to quadruple our present breeding stock and provide us with the necessary luxuries of a laboratory, treatment room/hospital, staff facilities and a totally enclosed animal despatching area. Once fully operational, the facility will assist us maintaining our current high standards, introduce even more stringent quality asurrance and continue to guarantee the quality of our Merungora rabbits in an ever expanding and more demanding marketplace.
Clinical Analytics has been a registered Australian company since 1980 offering expertise and uniques skills to laboratories specialising in human and veterinary pathology, medical research and food technology. The Principals of Clinical Analytics, Anne and Greg Alpen are both Medical Laboratory Scientists and encompass a vast knowledge base in the field of Pathology. They are both trained to expose and identify disease processes as they appear and to treat these processes accordingly and this training contributed to the initial success of this venture.
Our breeding nucleus were SPF animals, which over time we have supplemented with larger males to provide animals weighing 2.5Kgs or more at 13-15 weeks of age. Current stock is about 300 animals including breeders, kittens and sale-ready rabbits.
We deliver door to door in Sydney and Brisbane on a weekly basis, and air freight to other capital cities when required.
